Six years later

Kein andere Programmpunkt wurde von uns so mit Spannung erwartet wie der Besuch von Mtoni. Wer ein bisschen unsere Partnerarbeit verfolgt, hat den Namen schon mal gehört. Für alle anderen: es handelt sich um eine Station der medizinischen Grundversorgung in Temeke in Trägerschaft der ECD. Da waren wir vor sechs Jahren auch, so ein üblicher Besuch einer Einrichtung: gucken, informieren, Hände schütteln, weiter. Fast. Denn in einem bis auf einen Stuhl und eine Krankenpritsche leeren Raum, wird uns dieser als neue Geburtsstation vorgestellt. Und damit nahm die Geschichte ihren Lauf. 

No other point from the agenda was expected so excited like the visit of Mtoni. Who knows a littlemabout our partnership has heard this name before. Who not: it is a dispensary for basic medical service, located in Temeke, carried by the ECD. At this place we hab been six years ago. Some of the visits where you stay a short time, look around, shaking hands and than go again. Nearly. That happened: one just with chair and old hospitalbed equiped room was introduced us as fuether maternity ward. And so the story began.

Anja Wulf war als Delegierte dabei. Sie ist Hebamme und beim Begriff Maternity Ward hat es sie blitzartig getroffen. Vor Ort gab es schon erste Ideen, das Werden der Geburtsstation zu unterstützen. Das ist sechs Jahre her. Mittlerweile fand ein Transport medizinischer Geräte statt, gab es Schulungen und ein Praktikum einer Hebamme in Unna, bürokratische Hürden wurden ausgeräumt,  Zäune und Wassertanks errichtet. Mit Michaela Pfeiffer ist die zweite Hebamme eingestiegen und der Partnerkreis in Unna sammelt fleißig Geld für die neuen Erfordernisse. Seit über einem Jahr werden regelmäßig Kinder geboren. Soviel in Kürze.

Anja Wulf was one of the delegates. She is a midwife and hearing the words maternity ward flashed here immidiately. At the place the first ideas were born to support the ward. Now it is six years later. Meanwhile a transport with equipment wasmorganized, seminars had taken place, a widwife worked for a while,in Unna, fences and watertanks were builded. With Michaela Pfeiffer a second midwife joined in und the partnership commitee collected money for that, what is needed. Since more than a year babies are vorn here. Just to make it short.

Jetzt stehen wir wieder hier, sehen das tolle Team in Arbeitskleidung mit Logo, sehen den um Rührung ringenden Arzt und dann kommen auch nur die Mütter mit den ersten dort geborenen Kindern (wie freiwillig die Kinder zumindest als Zweitname Anja, Michaela und Dietrich genannt wurden, weiß ich nicht, ist aber so). 

Now we stand here again, we see a great team in their working clothes with the ward's logo, we see a doctor struggling on emotion and than the mothers of the first here born babies come to our meeting (how voluntary their children were named Anja, Michaela an Dietrich, we don't know, but it's true).

Da ist es um mich geschehen. Die Luft wird knapp, die Tränen kullern. So geht es einigen von uns. Allen, die sich hier über eine so lange Zeit engagierten, erkennen wohl in dem Augenblick, was hier gelungen ist. Aus der Idee wurde ein Partnerschaftsprojekt, zwar im Auf und Ab, aber mit Plan und Management, mit viel fachlichem Verstand, medizinisch wie entwicklungstechnisch und mit noch viel mehr Herz. Mich hat wohl kaum ein Moment in meinem Dienst so gerührt, wie dieser. Das ist großes Glück, das ist ein Segen, das ist ein Privileg. Und das ist Aufforderung, weiter zu machen. Das werden wir.

At this moment I am done. I can't breathe, tears come along. So it is with some of us. All those, that were so busy over the years they notice at this moment: we together have done a lot the right way. From the first ideas it changed to a real partnership project, sometimes with ups and downs, but with a plan and good management, proffessional mind, medicaly and in terms of development and with so much heart. For me there has been no other moment in my job that touched me more. This is great luck, it is a blessing and a privilegue. And it is the request to keep going. We will.
