There is no sentence heard as often like this one: it is under construction. Bridges, houses and mostly churches. Everything is under construction. It is growing, getting better, bigger, newer. It seems as if everything is on it's way. A whole country is constructing its infrastructure new. And so does church. For us coming from Germany this seems sometimes somehow strange. We like it an other way. Things have to be ready when they are used. No half things. But here it goes an other way. Under construction does not mean not to be used. It means just not complete.
Under construction - das ist gerade im Bau, das ist wohl der meistgehörte Satz hier. Brücken, Häuser und, na klar, Kirchen, alle im Bau. Alles im Wachstum, alles wird besser, größer, neuer. Es scheint, dass alles im Werden ist. Ein ganzes Land baut sich seine Infrastruktur neu. Auch die Kirche. Für uns aus Deutschland mutet das schon manchmal sonderbar an. Wir mögen es gerne fertig, keine halben Sachen. Aber "im Bau" muss nicht heißen, das etwas nicht genutzt wird. Es heißt einfach: noch nicht ganz fertig.
Building a new church (a thing we do not see very often, we close churches) means: having walls, you put chairs in and you just start. Then the next step, then the next. Depending on your capacaty the building grows. That needs trust and is a good motivation for all those, who help building. For us keen on safety it is sometimes hard to stand. But in the long run we can learn from a growing society, that it sometimes needs less than perfection to do a good job.
Eine neue Kirche zu bauen (allein der Gedanke ist für uns im Abrissmodus ja schon erstaunlich genug) bedeutet: wenn die Wände stehen, kommen Stühle rein und los geht es. Dann irgendwann der nächste Schritt und dann der nächste, kommt ganz drauf an, was geht. Das braucht Vertrauen, sorgt aber für eine hohe Motivation bei allen Beteiligten. Für uns, die wir so auf Sicherheit bedacht sind, ist das manchmal nur schwer auszuhalten. Aber auf lange Sicht können wir hier lernen: auch mit weniger als einem perfekten Zwischenstand kann man prima arbeiten.
So perhapes I will try some things in future: 1.: Just start! 2.: Take the situation how you find it. 3. Be confident in the growing of things. I learn more and more, that "under constraction" is the nature especially of the church, instead of beeing ready. The next time I will take it as a quality feature when I hear: it is under construction.
Vielleicht lohnt es sich mal was auszuprobieren: 1.: Einfach loslegen. 2.: Die Situation nehmen, wie sie ist. 3.: Zuversichtlich sein, es wächst. Ich erkenne langsam, dass "under construction" ja eigentlich Wesen von Kirche ist, nicht das Fertigsein. Das nächste mal verstehe ich gerne als Qualitätsmerkmal, wenn ich höre: it is under construction!
